Follow our guide to the heart of the crafts village, to discover it’s history and day to day workings. You’ll learn about the geopolitical context of the great European powers of the 17th century which led Louis XIV to make France one of the greatest maritime powers in the world.

Discover how the carpenters, these builders of cathedrals, when ship plans still didn’t exist,got into the construction of these giants of the seas.From the perfectioning of ancestral knowledge to the birth of the profession of naval architect, you will learn how these great vessels have shaped the modern navy.

From the forest to the ship, the oak undergoes several transformations and can have several uses not limited simply to naval carpentry. Buildings, joinery, firewood, traditional fish smoking are the multiple activities that you’ll discover.

Climbing aboard the Jean Bart you’ll be able to contemplate and touch 3 centuries of history, and you’ll understand how these majestic 3-masters were built. Admiring the carpenters at work, you’ll be witnessing hundreds of years of knowledge.

During the guided visit there’ll be dozens of questions coming to mind, so rest assured, our guides will be delighted to answer them.

Accessible to people with reduced mobility, apart from access to the inside of the Jean Bart and the template tracing area.
